The MSc Environmental Science programme aims at “generating skilled manpower to tackle the growing environmental and developmental problems and changes arising from the transition to a sustainable society”, a statement from the university said.
The eligibility criterion for the programme is a bachelor’s, or BSc, degree from a recognized university.
IGNOU has launched a host of new courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the January admission cycle. It has launched a diploma course in value education and two online certificate courses on environment on the government’s MOOC platform, SWAYAM.
The MSc programme will give an insight into the socio-economic causes and the characteristics of pollution and degradation of the natural environment, including the effects on human beings, the atmosphere, the ecosystem and other organisms, IGNOU’s statement said.
“It will equip learners with the necessary knowledge to carry out independent assessments on environmental issues,” said the statement. “Learners will also be able to analyze and assess environmental systems and problems; propose sustainable solutions to environmental problems. They will be able to work on the development of policies and strategies for environmental planning for sustainable development.”
