IIT Delhi will launch BTech in Industrial Design, two new masters programmes by 2025

Download NowNEW DELHI : The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi will launch BTech in industrial design by 2025, announced institute’s director professor Rangan Banerjee while addressing a press conference today. Masters programmes in atmospheric design and ocean engineering are also in line.

About starting new courses, professor Banerjee said that IIT Delhi recently had its first batch of postgraduate programmes in electric mobility, cyber security and public policy programmes.

The computer science and engineering programme of IIT Delhi has many elements of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) and the institute is looking at how the integration of these courses can be done. The director further said, in terms of VLSI programme, they are in the process of building up the ecosystem but no specialised masters programme is planned.
Talking about the IIT Delhi curriculum, the professor said that the curriculum review is still ongoing and the institute emphasizes the idea of multidisciplinary and flexibility. “Next step is that each of our curriculum will be reviewed in tandem with the industry,” he said..
“We have given our students a chance to not only make the base of a strong major but also study other disciplines as well,” professor Banerjee said about the curriculum review.

Coming to the research part, he said that IIT Delhi has a research park and they are trying to co-locate different organisations within the park.
Banerjee informed that 2,350 students will be awarded degrees during IIT Delhi 54th convocation. The graduates of the first batch of MTech in Electric Mobility, Interdisciplinary MTech in Cyber Security, Masters in Public Policy, MSR in Material Science, and Joint PhD programme with Australia’s University of Queensland will also get degrees. This year, the convocation has been advanced so that all students can attend the event, he added. Moreover, students will be conferred with gold and silver medals.
Besides new courses, IIT Delhi members talked about student suicides. Dean of student affairs Aditya Mittal said that student suicide is a major concern for IIT Delhi. He informed that the number of counselors in the institute have increased and is the highest of all IITs. The institute is also trying to enhance faculty mentorship and, on the other hand, putting efforts to help students with language issues. No internal committee has been formed in the recent suicide case of BTech student Ayush .
