IIT Madras allows meritorious MTech, MA students to switch to PhD after 1 year; registration from March 27

IIT Madras is offering a total of 13 MTech, one MA, and three MSc programmes. The application link for the offered courses will be available from March 27 to April 25, 2025.
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras will start registrations for admission to its various MTech, MSc, and MA programmes for the July 2025 session on March 27. Candidates, who wish to apply for the courses, will be able to register through the official websites at mtechadm.iitm.ac.in and jam2025.iitd.ac.in.
The institute is offering a total of 13 MTech, one MA, and three MSc programmes. The application link for the offered courses will be available from March 27 to April 25, 2025.
The courses under the MTech programme includes aerospace engineering, biotechnology, civil engineering, mathematics, mechanical engineering, ocean engineering, applied mechanics and biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, computer science and engineering, data science and artificial intelligence, electrical engineering, metallurgical and materials engineering, and physics.
In addition, the
IIT Madras
also offers MA humanities and MA social sciences and MSc chemistry, physics and mathematics.

IIT Madras Admissions 2025: Eligibility, fee
Candidates who have qualified for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2023, 2024, and 2025 are eligible to apply for MTech and MA programmes.
For general category candidates, the application fee to register for the MTech and MA courses is Rs 600 while applicants belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Persons with Disabilities (PwD), and female candidates need to pay Rs 300 as application fee.
IIT Madras: Financial assistance, Fellowships
Candidates, who have completed their four year degree programme and have completed the minister of education assistantship (Half-Time Teaching Assistantship (HTTA)), will get financial assistance of Rs 12,400 per month for 22 months.
MA applicants with a 3 year degree programme will get an assistantship from 3rd semester. Notably, the MTech, MA meritorious students are also eligible for conversion to PhD programmes after 1 year. Joint PhD programmes are also available.
MTech candidates will get the opportunity to carry out their projects in industry, approved organisations, and foreign countries. Fellowships from DAAD, government organisations and industries are also available for some courses.
