IIT Mandi, NSDC, NorthCap University launch BTech ECE course in semiconductor design and technology
IIT Mandi’s BTech ECE Course Launch: NCU will handle enrolments, provide infrastructure, and award degrees by integrating course credits.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi), National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), and NorthCap University (NCU) Gurugram have launched BTech ECE in ‘Semiconductor Design and Technology’. NCU will be responsible for managing student enrolments and scheduling for the IIT Mandi’s BTech ECE course.
The agreement was signed at Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi. NCU will also provide essential infrastructure, including classrooms, laboratories, and online learning platforms. Additionally, NCU will award the final degree, after adding the credits and certifications earned from the IIT Mandi BTech course.
As per the official statement, the newly launched IIT Mandi ’s BTech ECE programme aims to address the increasing demand for skilled professionals in the semiconductor industry by equipping students with 'industry-relevant knowledge and hands-on training'.
IIT Mandi’s BTech ECE in semiconductor technology
The IIT Mandi’s BTech ECE programme is a four-year course, divided into eight semesters. The BTech ECE programme will cover subjects such as:
- Nanotechnology and Semiconductor Materials Engineering
- Semiconductor physics
- Introduction to microfabrication
- Semiconductor fabrication
- Semiconductor equipment design and technology
- Advanced Topics in Manufacturing
The IIT Mandi’s BTech ECE in semiconductor technology curriculum includes 25 credits of application-based learning, developed collaboratively by NCU, NSDC, and IIT Mandi. The BTech ECE degree will be awarded by NCU.
IIT Mandi’s BTech ECE Course: Role of NSDC
NSDC will facilitate programme implementation, enrollment, and financial support. Its contributions include managing student enrollment through its digital platform and assisting eligible candidates in availing education loans. NSDC will also provide online learning resources, which will include AI-enabled video lectures. The NDSC will also handle internships and placements for students.

IIT Mandi’s contribution
IIT Mandi will provide specialized faculty and facilitate hands-on immersion programs in its advanced laboratories. The institute will assess students through coursework, exams, assignments, and projects, issuing credit certifications that will contribute to their final degree at NCU.

Industry-relevant skills
The BTech ECE in semiconductor technology is designed to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical training. As per the official statement, students will gain exposure to advanced semiconductor technologies through hands-on learning experiences.
