NEW DELHI: To assist the differently-abled students amidst the lockdown, Indian Institute of Technology- Roorkee’s Ansushruti Academy for the Deaf, or AAD, will offer online lessons.
The academy, a social initiative of IIT-Roorkee, will provide online lessons for hearing impaired students from the marginalized sections of society.
The online classes will include recorded videos by the instructors for students. It will be helpful in inculcating the lessons with active support from their parents.
A statement released by IIT Roorkee said: "The initial hiccups in the e-learning process were resolved with the active support from the teacher-parent community."
Facilities like internet and smartphones will also be provided for the online classes. Moreover, the classes will focus on imparting vocational skills and training in music to equip these students for future jobs.
Education in lockdown
Due to the outbreak of coronavirus, unlike other children, learning for disabled children has been even more challenging. With lack of proper amenities and equipment and the need for social distancing has made the learning for disabled children difficult.
The lockdown enforced to control the spread of novel coronavirus has caused many schools and colleges to suspend classes and vacate campuses.
To facilitate undisturbed studies, several academic institutes and the governments have provided various methods for continuing teaching and learning online during the lockdown.
Classes for children and youths with disabilities like cerebral palsy, vision or hearing impairment, have also gone online.
