JEE Main 2024: Students find session 2 tougher than session 1; overall analysis

NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has concluded the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main 2024) session 2 today. Candidates who applied for paper 2A BAarch and 2B BPlanning took the exam from 9 am to 12.30 pm. As per the JEE Main session 2 exam analysis 2024, students rated the April 8 shift 2 question paper to be the "toughest". Moreover, students found the session 2 exams 'more difficult' compared to JEE Main session 1 exams held in January.

The NTA conducted the national-level engineering entrance exam JEE Mains 2024 in two sessions - January and April. The JEE Main session 1 exams were held from January 24 to February 1 for a total of 12,25,529 candidates. Session 2 exams were administered for around 12.57 lakh registered candidates.

JEE Main April 8 shift 2 was the toughest exam this year, as per students' reaction. Several coaching centres have issued the shift-wise JEE Main unofficial answer key and memory-based questions. The testing agency informed that the JEE Main final results and rank list 2024 will be declared by merging the two sessions. The NTA also allowed candidates to appear in both sessions to help them improve their scores and also to reduce the drop year.

The JEE Main session 2 exams were held in 319 cities including 22 exam cities abroad.

JEE Main 2024 session 1

The NTA conducted the JEE Main session 1 exams for 12.25 lakh aspirants in 544 centres in 291 cities, including 21 cities outside India. The BArch exam was held on the first day of session 1 on January 24. Out of the total number of registered applicants, 11,70,036 appeared in BE, BTech paper and 55,493 appeared for the BArch, BPlanning paper. Overall attendance for BTech paper was recorded at 95.8%. As per the JEE Main session 1 exam analysis , the January 31 exam was rated the “toughest” compared to all other shifts

As per the JEE Main toppers list 2024 , a total of 23 male candidates secured a perfect 100 percentile in the session 1 exams. The highest percentage secured by a female candidate, Dwija Dharmeshkumar Patel from Gujarat, in the first session is 99.9991763.

Of the 23 toppers, the highest number of 7 candidates from Telangana obtained JEE Main AIR 1 in session 1.

JEE Main session 2 exam analysis

The NTA informed students that while preparing the final merit list for the academic year 2024, the best of two scores in JEE Main 2024 will be considered for candidates who appeared in both the sessions. The JEE Main session 2 results will be declared on April 25. Meanwhile, the official answer key will be published on the official website, jeemain.nta.ac.in soon.

JEE Main session 2 subject-wise topics

Mathematics - This section was rated ‘toughest’ in most of the shifts in session 2 and in session 1. The question paper was lengthy and had more calculative questions. Questions were mostly from AP, GP, definite integration, vector on the midpoint on the intersection line, circle, 3D, and 2D geometry, calculus, set, relation, and function, integration and matrix.

Physics - This section had more theory-based questions in some shifts and formula-based questions in the rest. Questions were mostly asked from potentiometer, electromagnetism, magnetic effect of electric current, De Broglie wavelength, beat resonance frequency. Physics was rated moderately difficult in almost all shifts in session 2.

Chemistry - This section had direct questions from the NCERT textbooks. Students also found the chemistry section to be tougher than physics. According to the memory-based questions, topics such as SN1 and SN2 reactions, optical isomerism, coordination compounds, bond order, d and f block elements, and molecular orbital theory had more weightage. Overall, organic and inorganic chemistry questions had more weightage compared to physical chemistry.
