Maharashtra military schools to have GK subject as per previous scheme: Gaikwad

NEW DELHI: Maharashtra military schools will continue to have ‘General Knowledge’ subject as per the previous subject plan, school education minister Varsha Gaikwad announced on social media. According to the minister, there has been a demand to run the subject according to the previous subject scheme.

“For many years, there has been a demand that the subject of 'General Knowledge' in the 11th and 12th Revised Subject Scheme and Assessment Scheme should be continued in the military schools as in the previous subject scheme. In today's meeting, it has been approved to continue the relevant subject as per the previous subject plan,” Varsha Gaikwad said in a social media post.

“The subject 'General Knowledge' will help in inculcating the habit of self-study in the students as well as enabling them to take competitive exams. At the same time, it will create awareness among the students about the rich national culture and heritage. Leadership points will also increase,” the education minister added.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government has decided to reopen schools for Classes 1 to 5 from October 25. The schools will need to get consent of the parents for running physical classes and only 50% attendance is allowed.

The state resumed physical classes for Classes 5 to 12 on October 4 after being closed for over 18 months due to the pandemic situation.

Until now, schools were conducting physical classes only in the areas with fewer COVID-19 cases. Last month, Maharashtra's school education minister, Varsha Gaikwad had announced that physical classes will resume in schools across the state and the government also issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) for it, said a PTI report.
