MP’s Madhav Institute of Science and Technology gets deemed university status
On UGC’s advice, the education ministry granted the deemed university status to the institute.

NEW DELHI: Madhav Institute of Science and Technology has been granted the deemed university status. On the advice of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Ministry of Education granted the status under the distinct category.
With the new status, deemed university will be able to start new programmes. The university will have to take steps to get courses and institute rated for valid accreditation by the National Board of Accreditation and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), participating in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings, and create Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) IDs for students.
In four separate notifications, it was informed that online applications were submitted on the UGC portal by the four institutions for conferment of the deemed university status under de-novo category, now called as distinct category.

An online application was submitted on the UGC portal by the institute for conferment of the deemed university status under de-novo category. The institute also submitted an undertaking for consideration of its application in accordance with UGC Deemed to be Universities Regulations, 2023.
The Ministry of Education, on UGC’s recommendation, issued a Letter of Intent (Lol) on December 7, 2023 to Scindia lingineering College Society, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh for fulfilment of the certain conditions within a period of three years before grant of deemed university status to Madhav Institute of Technology and Science, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh under the distinct category.
The conditions included creation and maintenance of a corpus fund of Rs 25 crore in the name of the proposed institute, increasing the number of regular faculty, submission of approvals for courses, among others.
The institute submitted a compliance report which was verified by the UGC expert committee. The expert committee accepted the report and the commission approved them in its 577th meeting held on February 13.
