Over 600 DU LLB students ask for modified DU OBE

NEW DELHI: Over 600 students of Delhi University’s faculty of law wrote to the dean requesting modifications in DU OBE 2021, the LiveLaw has reported.

The letter came after the Bar Council of India accepted the recommendation of a high-level committee mandating final-year exams for LLB students . The committee left it to the universities to decide on how to conduct exams after assessing the COVID-19 situation on the ground.

To ease the burden on students suffering from COVID-19 and others taking care of ill family members, the students have requested flexibility in the exam. Instead of a time-bound exam, the students have requested the dean to allow till the end of the month to submit answer sheets.

“With respect to the upcoming final year papers, we request you to convert a time-bound exam (of 4 hours) to a take-home exam. Kindly consider providing all the question papers on 16.6.2021 and keep 30th of this month as the deadline for the submission of answer sheets,” the letter said.

Final year exams are scheduled to commence on June 16 onwards and pending exams for other semesters will be held in July-August. The letter further asked for an assignment-based evaluation for the students writing their fourth-semester exams.

There has been much wrangling among LLB students over the DU OBE. One section wrote to the BCI requesting cancellation of the exam and even moved the Delhi High Court. Another section countered by writing to the BCI that they did want exams.
