Tamil Nadu: Rajmohan is the new school education minister; KG Arunraj gets charge of medical colleges

Tamil Nadu Portfolios 2026: Aadhav Arjuna is the new minister for public works and sports development, managing both state infrastructure and sports infrastructure for youth.
The Governor of Tamil Nadu has approved the allocation of the newly-formed TN government’s cabinet ministers under the leadership of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay. For the education sectors, Rajmohan has been appointed as the Minister for School Education, while KG Arunraj is the new minister of state for medical colleges.
It's been six days since the newly-formed Tamil Nadu government took charge of the office.
Chief Minister Vijay
, who was sworn in on May 10, 2026, will oversee core governance sectors including public, general administration, home, police, and All-India Services (IAS, IPS, IFS), alongside municipal administration, according to an official statement.
Rajmohan will look after school education, archaeology, and Tamil official language and culture. He will also be responsible for information and publicity and government printing.

Tamil Nadu portfolio for sports development, infrastructure
Although the official notification does not have a separate higher education ministry, KG Arunraj is the new minister for health, medical education and family welfare. He will be in charge of the state’s medical colleges and healthcare training.
Moreover, other portfolios include Aadhav Arjuna is the minister for public works and sports development, managing both state infrastructure and sports infrastructure for youth.
In addition, Rajmohan, the Minister for School Education, Tamil official language and Tamil culture held a consultative meeting with officials from the Tamil development and information department today.
Recently, Tamil Nadu CM Vijay urged the union government to abolish the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) after the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the MBBS admission test across the country due to alleged paper leak reports.
CM Vijay also asked Centre to allow states to admit students to MBBS, BDS and AYUSH programmes on the basis of their Class 12 marks.
