The Telangana senior resident doctors demanded immediate intervention by the state government and the National Medical Commission (NMC) to take penal action against defaulting institutions.
The Telangana Senior Resident Doctors Association (T-SRDA) has strongly condemned private medical colleges for denying fair and timely stipends for all interns and postgraduates. The resident doctors group said all senior residents across the state will wear black bands during duty on May 24 to protest against the persistent delay in stipend disbursement.
The continued violation of the government order and NMC CRMI 2021 regulations mandating equal pay for all interns and postgraduates regardless of the institution has sparked outrage among the resident doctors in the state. “Despite multiple appeals to state authorities and regulatory bodies, the silence has been deafening,” the official statement said.
As per the Telangana government order, the stipend was increased by 15% with effect from January 1, 2023, to the medical prosecuting MBBS, BDS (House Surgeons), PG degree, PG diploma, MDS and super specialty courses, and honorarium to senior residents. Telangana is home to around 28 private medical colleges.
In April 2023, Careers360 reported a similar incident in which PG resident doctors alleged delay in disbursing stipends by private medical colleges . The Healthcare Reforms Doctor's Association ( HRDA ) had written to the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC) complaining about private medical colleges collecting extra fees of Rs 50,000 in the name of lab fees, library fees, sports fees. In short, the stipend problem has been plaguing the state for over years now.
Demanding an immediate intervention by the state government and the National Medical Commission (NMC) to take penal action against defaulting institutions. “As a symbol of protest and unity, all Senior Residents across Telangana will wear black bands during duty on Saturday, 24th May 2025. This is not just about stipends - it is about justice, dignity, and healthcare in our state,” the official statement read.
