Day two of Visitor’s Conference at Rashtrapati Bhavan; sessions on various themes

NEW DELHI: The two-day Visitor’s Conference at Rashtrapati Bhavan concluded today, March 4. The conference was held on various themes such as academic courses, credit sharing and transfer with multiple entry and exit options, internationalisation efforts and collaboration, effective student selection processes and assessments.

According to the PIB statement, President Droupadi Murmu in concluding remarks said that our national goal is to make India a developed country before the end of the first half of this century.

“Young students would make a more effective identity for themselves in the 21st century world with the strengthening of internationalisation efforts and collaborations. Availability of excellent education in our higher education institutions would decrease the tendency to study abroad. Our young talent would be better utilized in nation building,” the PIB statement said.

President said it challenging to have an education system which is flexible according to the special talents and needs of the students. In this context, there is a crucial need to remain alert and changes should be made based on experience.

“She urged the heads of institutions of higher learning to make institutional efforts to have continuous discussions with senior people of industrial institutions in mutual interest,” the PIB statement added.

Union minister for education Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the gathering and expressed his gratitude to the President for her guidance. He highlighted the collective responsibility of shaping India’s education system and emphasised implementation of NEP 2020 should be a national mission.

Visitor’s Conference session summary

The theme of the session 1 was on flexibility in academic courses, credit sharing and credit transfer with multiple entry and exit options, and the session summary was presented by Anand Bhalerao, the vice-chancellor of the Central University of Rajasthan.

The 2nd theme was based on internationalization efforts and collaborations, and M Jagadesh Kumar, the chairman of UGC, presented the summary and highlighted the potential that India has for the internationalization of education.

According to the PIB statement, the 3rd session was themed on translation research and innovation and Govindan Rangarajan the director of ndian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore presented the session summary. He highlighted challenges the HEIs face in translational research and innovation from lab to land. The 4th session was based on effective student selection processes and respecting student choices in the context of NEP, and the summary session was presented by Manindra Agrawal the director of IIT Kanpur. The 5th session was effective assessment and evaluation and session summary was presented by K Radhakrishnan the former chairman of ISRO and chairman of BoG IIT Kanpur.
