UGC invites applications from universities, HEIs to set up skill hubs in PMKVY

Higher Education Institutes can apply for establishing ‘skill hubs’ under the PMKVY 4.0 on the Skill India Portal, admin.skillindiadigital.gov.in/Skillhub.
NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited applications from universities, higher education institutions (HEIs) to set up ‘skill hubs’ under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 4.0).
The HIEs administrations can operationalise the scheme processes and manage it digitally on the Skill India Portal, admin.skillindiadigital.gov.in/Skillhub, The HIEs will to willingness application and course or job-role-wise demand on the portal.

The UGC said the scheme is part of the expansion of the delivery network to offer skilling programmes beyond the traditional skilling institutions. The ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship (MSDE) will set up ‘skill hubs’ at identified higher educational institutions of national repute under the PMKVY 4.0, it added.
The MSDE has been implementing PMKVY for imparting short-term skill training since 2015 for creating an industry-ready workforce across a spectrum of sectors and job roles. Some of the schemes include, on-the job training, expansion of skilling institutions network for integration with education, skilling for all, training in new age courses relevant to Industry.
PMKVY is the flagship scheme of the MSDE implemented by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). The objective of the scheme is to enable youth to take up industry relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better livelihood.

The PMKVY has a special projects component that aims at creation of a platform to facilitate training in special areas and/or premises of government bodies, corporate or industry bodies, and training in special job roles not defined under the available qualification packs or National Occupational Standards (NOS).
