NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to release the revised dates of the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) for the May 2021 session (December 2020 cycle) on the official website - ugcnet.nta.nic.in. The UGC NET 2021 is conducted for the post of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).

Earlier, the UGC NET exam was scheduled to be held from May 2 to 17, 2021, however, got postponed due to the second wave of the COVID-19 situation in India. NTA was expected to release the UGC NET 2021 admit card in April 2021 but it withheld its decision because of the lockdown and restriction imposed in many states. The UGC NET exam date 2021 was announced on February 2.

What is UGC NET exam?

The NTA conducts the UGC NET exam on a national level twice a year. It is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for only Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor posts in Indian colleges and universities. After qualifying the UGC NET candidates can apply for the post of Assistant Professors and can also pursue PhD from universities that accept NET qualification as an eligibility certificate.

What is the exam pattern of UGC NET exam?

As per the exam pattern of UGC NET, there are two papers in the UGC NET 2021 exam. Both papers consist of multiple-choice questions. Each question carries 2 marks and the overall duration is 3 hours. The best part about this exam is that there is no negative marking. There are 150 questions in both papers. Aspirants planning for the exam must check the preparation tips of UGC NET 2021 .

How many papers are there in the UGC NET exam?

The UGC NET paper 1 is common for all candidates, the syllabus for paper 1 will be focused on candidates' teaching and subjects such as general knowledge, reasoning ability etc. While paper 2 is subject-based and candidates can choose from a list of 81 subjects while filling the application form of UGC NET .
