UGC NET December results 2024 by next week; how will NTA award marks for dropped questions?
UGC NET results for December 2024 are expected to be declared latest by next week, as per past trends. Over 6.49 lakh candidates await the results to be hosted on ugcnet.nta.ac.in.

NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to announce the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) December 2024 result date soon. As per the past trends, the UGC NET results and final answer key is expected to be out by next week on its official website, ugcnet.nta.ac.in. Around 6.49 lakh candidates took the UGC NET December exams 2024.
The NTA conducted the UGC NET exam to determine the eligibility of candidates for assistant professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), or for PhD admissions. A total of 8,49,166 candidates registered to appear for the NTA NET exam at 558 exam centres in 266 cities across the country. Of them, 6,49,490 appeared in the exam held between January 3 to January 27 by recording an attendance of 76.5%.
The UGC NET exam was held for a total of 85 subjects in computer-based test (CBT) format. The facility to challenge the UGC NET provisional answer key was closed on February 3. A panel of subject experts will review the objections to prepare the final answer key and results.
In the last session, over 11 lakh candidates registered, out of which 6.84 lakh appeared. As per the UGC NET results 2024, a total of 4,970 candidates qualified for JRF, 53,694 for assistant professor only, and 1,12,070 for PhD admissions.
How are marks calculated for UGC NET?
The question paper had 150 questions carrying a total of 300 marks. Part 1 has 50 questions carrying 100 marks and intends to test the teaching and research aptitude of the candidate. Part 2 has 100 subject-specific questions carrying 200 marks. There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers, as per the marking scheme.
- Each correct answer will fetch 2 marks.
- No marks will be awarded for incorrect answers.

- If a question is found to be incorrect or dropped from the final answer key, two marks will be awarded only to those candidates who attempted the question.
- If a question is found to be ambiguous or has multiple correct answers, marks will be given to only those candidates who have attempted and chosen one of the correct answers.
