NEW DELHI : To acknowledge and honour the greatest achievements of women and commemorate the feminist movement for equality, the world celebrates women’s day on March 8.
Following tradition, the United Nations has set the Women’s Day 2022 theme as “gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”. The theme intends to recognise the contribution of women and girls around the world, who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and response, to build a more sustainable future for all.
Meanwhile in India, after two years of the COVID-19 gap, President Ram Nath Kovind will confer 28 Nari Shakti Puruskar to women for their distinguished work towards the empowerment of women, especially those vulnerable and marginalised. The Government of India will recognise the exceptional contributions of women in the field of entrepreneurship, STEM, agriculture, innovation, linguistics, etc.
Technical education regulator, All India Council for Technical Education , or AICTE will also host the second Lilavati Awards to celebrate women empowerment. This year, 27 teams including teachers and staff members and students will be awarded for their contribution in eight fields of work such women and adolescent health, sanitation, literacy and life skills, legal awareness and technology etc.
