AICTE: 226 authors translate 218 engineering books for first-year UG, Diploma students

NEW DELHI: 226 authors have reviewed and translated 218 engineering books for first-year students of undergraduate and Diploma programmes, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) announced on social media.

Recently, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that 14 engineering colleges in eight states will offer BTech in five regional languages.

Earlier in July, AICTE approved 14 engineering colleges to offer BTech in regional languages.

In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the BTech programmes will be taught in 11 regional languages including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, Malayalam, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi and Odia. The ministry of education had appointed two committees including AICTE to study the feasibility of engineering in regional languages.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu had welcomed the decision of AICTE. Anna University already offers civil and mechanical engineering in Tamil in 11 colleges. Students have the option to write exams in either English or Tamil.

A lot of times in the past, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also stressed on the need to uplift mother tongue by offering education in regional languages. AICTE, UGC have conducted webinars on strengthening of Indian languages.

On September 23, UGC conducted a webinar along with the education ministry on strengthening Indian Languages for holistic educational attainment under the Good Governance pakhwada being celebrated from September 17 to October 7 2021. Annapurna Devi, minister of state for education was the chief guest of the webinar.
