CBSE bans use of ChatGPT, mobile during board exam 2025; warns students of action for spreading rumors

NEW DELHI : From introducing CCTV surveillance in the examination halls and gender-wise frisking to taking use of mobile phones and spreading rumours as serious offences, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is tightening its security measures to ensure fair conduct of the upcoming board exams 2025. The board will commence CBSE Class 10, 12 board exams 2025 for more than 42 lakh students at 7,842 examination centres tomorrow, February 15.

CBSE has issued clear instructions for the persons in charge of the exam centres as well as for students and their parents. The board introduced CCTV policy this year mandating all schools fixed as exam centres to have the facility.
As per the board, a dummy student is not allowed to appear for CBSE board exam 2025 . A CBSE student who has secured 100 percentile in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) 2025 session 1 reportedly enrolled into a dummy school, the board chairperson said to have read in a news report, and clarified that candidates without proper attendance are not eligible to write the annual exams.
CBSE, which has been strict in terms of compliance of examination bye-laws also found dummy teachers in schools during surprise inspections and warned such educators, while instructing the teachers on duty for the CBSE 10th, 12th board exams 2025 .
The Unfair Means rules have been updated, covering use of mobile phones inside the examination hall and spreading of rumours on social media, the board said during a webinar. CBSE exam controller Sanyam Bharadwaj suggested approaching the board in case of any issue, instead of posting the problem on social media. “In case of any issue, going to social media is not the solution. Going to the CBSE website and uploading the request on the channel is the solution,” he said during a webinar.
Board Exams 2025: Instructions for students
For smooth conduct of the theory exams starting tomorrow, CBSE has issued the following instructions for students to avoid cancellation of exams:
- Students will be kept in the classroom till the designated hour. They won’t be allowed to enter the exam hall after the closing time.
- Students will be allowed to write the exam only in the subject printed on the admit card and no other subject. They should be supplied with the question paper only in that particular subject.
- Students have to appear for the exam in their school uniforms.
- Mobile, smart watches, and communication devices are not allowed.
- Carrying mobile phones and spreading rumours will lead to serious punishment.
- Students are advised to reach the exam centre along with their parents.
- No student will be allowed to enter the examination hall after 10 am.
- Carry school ID, admit card, and permitted items.
Sanyam Bhardwaj, CBSE examination controller, said: “No where eligibility is checked in competitive examination at the time of submission of application form. It is only after selection, the exam conducting authorities check the eligibility. It is clearly mentioned in the bulletin issued by the NTA that either certificate or mark sheet should be uploaded. So candidates can upload Class 10 mark sheet.”

Frisking during board exams 2025
The board has deployed male and female persons for frisking during the CBSE board exams . Following are the rules of frisking:
- Duty will start at entry gate.
- Develop an enclosed area for girl students.
- Verbally warn the students about mobile and other barred items.
- Frisk them especially for mobile and communication devices.
- Don’t hurt the sentiments of students.
- Visit the exam rooms.
CBSE Board Exams 2025: Role of exam centres
On the actual exam day, the board has asked those on duty to ensure the following for ensuring fair conduct of exams:
- Security of the question paper prior to the exam is to be secured and ensured at all costs. The centre superintendent will go to the examination centre and get the question paper themselves. It would be their duty to collect the papers in their personal capacities.
- From collection of confidential materials and checking if the question paper packets are correct to safe carrying of question papers to exam rooms and signing of undertaking, centre heads will perform the duties on their own.
- Check if the seats are intact, in case any issue, bring it to the notice of the exam controller at once.
- Utilise the apps and be on the system on the particular day.
- Allow full access to the observers so that they can perform their duties without fear or favour.
- Only the centre superintendent is allowed to carry mobile phones during the exam. Invigilators will keep their phones away once the exam begins.
- Ensure that the entry gate is not blocked by parents and other persons related to the examinees.
- In case a student is not well, the centre superintendent should make a report, note the time, and inform immediately to take the most suited action such as giving additional time to the candidate.
- Make a seating arrangement for only 24 candidates in one room.
- Display bell schedule in the exam room.
- The question papers of the two parts of Mathematics and Hindi subjects will be packed separately.
- The head examiner will be held responsible, in case any answer book goes missing.
- In case of a medical emergency, first aid will be given first at the school. If the student needs to be shifted to a hospital, assistant superintendents will make a full report and allow the student to leave the school only after depositing the question paper and answer sheet.
