CBSE results 2021 evaluation criteria approved by Supreme Court: Education Ministry

NEW DELHI: Education minister Dharmendra Pradhan was asked in Parliament if the Union Government is aware of the “widespread discontentment among the students” about the alternative evaluation criteria adopted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for the Class 10 and 12th board results. The education ministry replied: “Policy for preparation of results has been approved by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.” July 19 was the first day of the monsoon session of the Parliament.

The CBSE was originally expected to declare the Class 10 result 2021 by July 20 and Class 12 results by July 31. The CBSE board exams for Classes 10 and 12 were cancelled due to the pandemic situation. The CBSE results 2021 will be prepared on the basis of evaluation criteria submitted by the board on July 17 in the Supreme Court. In it, 30% weightage has been assigned to Class 10 marks; 30% to Class 11 marks; and 40% to Class 12 marks.

The MPs further asked if the challenges faced by the students have been taken into consideration to which Dharmendra Pradhan replied that ministry has noted and addressed the challenges of “diversity in instructional methods, non-uniform evaluation process, multiplicity in types of assessment conducted by the schools and conduct of online and offline classes”.

The education minister was also asked whether only 50% of the Class 12 students had access to online education and if the government is taking measures to improve online education. The education ministry replied that online classes are being conducted through various portals including DIKSHA and SWAYAM. Learning programmes have also been started through offline learning tools like SMS, toll free numbers, radio and podcasts.
