The exam, which made its debut two years ago, was conducted in hybrid mode (online and offline) for the first time. The papers with a large number of registrations were held in pen and paper or OMR mode and those with lesser applications were conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. The move aimed to reduce the number of days and help students take the test in the city of their choice while expanding the range of examination centres.
As part of NTA’s plan to rejig the exam, the CUET UG 2024 scores will not be normalised this year, an initiative hailed by students across the country, who were allowed to choose only six papers.
Since its inception, the exam has been marred with several issues and this year was not much different, despite various changes announced by the exam agency and the University Grants Commission (UGC). Soon after the commencement of registration, candidates complained about the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) column, identification number, and the universities missing from the list of participating universities such as Delhi University . Adding to the problems, CUET admit card put students in panic mode as they complained of not being able to download it and alleged exam centre to be missing.
CUET UG 2024: Pile of complaints
The chaos had hardly settled down when candidates faced another challenge as the very first test scheduled for May 15 was postponed to May 29 for those in Delhi. The exams went fine, however, English paper candidates called it a “disaster” and made complaints of less time, mismanagement, and chaos at the examination centres.
CUET UG result 2024 scheduled for June 30 was postponed amidst the controversy over the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2024 and other competitive exams.
Days after the exam was over, a video went viral showing CUET trunks lying in the open allegedly carrying answer sheets, causing an uproar amongst the student community. NTA rubbished the claims and clarified that the boxes are empty. Slamming the union government over the video, the opposition alleged a ‘scam’ in CUET too and demanded answers from the centre. Following the incident, some National Students Union of India (NSUI) members barged inside the NTA office demanding immediate shutdown of the agency.
Several aspirants also alleged errors in the CUET UG provisional answer key following which a re-test was held for all those who raised grievances. Many universities have also raised concerns over the delay caused by the entrance exam to the admission process and are looking for alternatives.
