The paper was lengthy due to the tricky MSQs that tested students' time management skills.
GATE 2026 CSE-2 paper had four questions from Algorithm, five from Operating System, and eight from Programming and Data Structure. The Engineering Mathematics section had moderate questions from Linear Algebra and Probability, as per the students’ reaction and subject experts.
While concept based question were asked from Discrete Mathematics, Graph theory, and combinatorics had some tricky questions. The general aptitude section was “easy to moderate,” and questions were asked from basic Arithmetic, Verbal ability, and Logical reasoning.
As per the students’ reaction and subject analysis, the Environmental Science and Engineering (EY) section had “moderate” questions, and the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NM) had “easy to moderate” questions.

GATE 2026 day 2 shift 1 morning session paper was moderate in difficulty. The CSE section was the toughest, with tricky questions. Whereas the general aptitude section was “easy,” as per the analysis report.
IIT Guwahati conducted the GATE 2026 day 2 shift 2 from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm across various centres. The remaining GATE 2026 exams will be held on February 14 and 15 in dual shifts.
