IIM Mumbai announces Rs 800 crore investment for campus modernisation, development
The institute has launched a new initiative aimed at further enhancing its academic and research capabilities.

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai has announced an investment of Rs 800 crores for its campus enhancement project. This investment will help towards modernising and developing state-of-the-art facilities on the campus. Following its rise to 6th place in national rankings just a year after its inception, the institute has launched a new initiative aimed at further enhancing its academic and research capabilities.
During the Teachers' Day celebration, Shashi Kiran Shetty, Chairman of the Board of Governance at IIM Mumbai and Founder and Chairman of Allcargo Group, inaugurated the new facilities. He highlighted the institute’s commitment towards driving innovation and excellence, particularly in areas including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology.
He emphasised the importance of creating an environment that enables students to thrive and explore cutting-edge advancements in these fields.
Commenting on the occasion, Shashi Kiran Shetty, Chairman, Board of Governance, IIM Mumbai and Founder and Chairman, Allcargo Group said, “The initiative to upgrade the campus is a part of our goal to develop a 21st century infrastructure capable of exceeding the global standards. Thanks to the prestigious IIM tag and the strategic location of the campus in Mumbai, the institute has started attracting faculty and students across the world. With state-of-the-art infrastructure, excellent faculty and best-in-class pedagogy, IIM Mumbai will emerge as the best management institute in the world, producing best in quality leadership and entrepreneurship.”
The institute has announced plans to introduce state-of-the-art facilities as part of its continued efforts to foster innovation and enhance academic excellence. These upcoming facilities will include a sprawling net-zero campus designed to be future-ready, with world-class residential accommodations for both faculty and students, as well as spaces dedicated to startup ecosystem development, Management Development Programs, and a large auditorium.
Campus features AI-driven research hub
The campus will also feature an Innovation Center with a focus on banking, finance, and fintech, along with an AI-driven research hub. A modern library, connecting students to global academic resources, will further enrich the learning environment. Additionally, the campus will house a prominent Management Training Center, offering certification programs and serving as a key platform for industry leaders.
Since its transition to an Indian Institute of Management (IIM), the institute has risen to 6th position in national rankings, reflecting the success of this shift. Situated in India's financial capital, IIM Mumbai plays a pivotal role in advancing business and management education in the city.
Manoj K Tiwari, Director of IIM Mumbai, outlined the institute’s vision for the future, announcing new courses designed to benefit both students and professionals. He also highlighted the collaboration with both Indian and international communities, aimed at enhancing knowledge sharing and promoting global engagement.
Over 1,200 students enrolled in institute
The institute hosts more than 1,200 students and is ranked among India's top B-schools. "We are confident that this project will continue to receive strong support from leading companies through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. This effort underscores the respected role of Indian leadership in driving progress not only within the country but also on the world stage", Shetty added.
