IIM Mumbai wins LEAPS 2024 award; ranks first in education, skill development

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai has won the Logistics Excellence, Advancement & Performance Shield (LEAPS) 2024 award in the logistics sector category. The management institute has secured first rank amongst 34 participants in the ‘Institutions: Education and skill development.’

The LEAPS 2024 award was presented to Manoj Tiwari, director of IIM Mumbai, by Piyush Goyal, minister of commerce and industry, consumer affairs, food and public distribution, and textiles.

The award aims at exceptional contributions and innovations within the logistics ecosystem, highlighting MSMEs, startups, and key enablers who demonstrate transformative practices and significant impact, as per an official statement by the institute.

The Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) Report 2024 was also revealed during the event. The report is an annual assessment by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the national logistics policy which gives a roadmap for increasing logistics performance across India, the institute said.

Expressing his thoughts on the award, Manoj Kumar Tiwari, director of IIM Mumbai, said: "This recognition is a testament to our unwavering commitment to driving excellence in Management education and skill development for India’s logistics sector. The institute further said that Shashi Kiran Shetty, founder & chairman, Allcargo Group and the chairman of IIM Mumbai board of governors, has been very helpful in transforming India’s logistics and supply chain industry. Over the past three decades, he has led the shift from outdated port infrastructure and warehousing systems to modern, technology-driven solutions, the institute added.

“Since Shri Shashi Kiran Shetty assumed the role of Chairperson of IIM Mumbai Board, the institute has gained immense momentum in promoting education and research as drivers of innovation in logistics and supply chain management as he envisions institutions as hubs for modern, tech-enabled practices, fostering talent and industry collaboration,” the institute stated.

“This approach of Shri Shashi Kiran Shetty aims to strengthen India’s position as a global logistics hub while advancing sustainable and efficient solutions,” it added.
