IIT Roorkee concludes Winter School on globalization, development, gender, and leadership

The winter school event began with a one-day policy workshop inaugurated by Kamal Kishore Pant, the chief guest and director of IIT Roorkee.
NEW DELHI : The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee in partnership with the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela, Lancaster University, and Birmingham University, United Kingdom concluded a five-day ‘Winter School’ event on globalization, development, gender, and leadership topics.
The Winter School event invited academicians, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss critical issues on gender dynamics in enterprise growth and globalization.
The programme began with a one-day policy workshop inaugurated by Kamal Kishore Pant, the chief guest and the director of IIT Roorkee, including Mrutyunjay Behera the guest of honour and economic advisor (joint secretary), the ministry of education, government of India.
“The event was held at the department of humanities and social sciences at IIT Roorkee under the aegis of SPARC (Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration) and the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), ministry of education, government of India. The convenor (project director) and co-convenors are Pratap Mohanty (IIT Roorkee), Pavel Chakraborty (Lancaster University, UK), and Narayan Sethi ( NIT Rourkela ).” the IIT Roorkee statement said.
Winter School on Globalization, Development, Gender, and Leadership
The Winter School programme concluded with a commitment to focus on collaborative research and policy innovation aiming to address gender disparities and promote leadership. The key topics of discussion included labour force participation, gender wage gap, the role of female leadership in boosting productivity, and innovation etc.
As per the statement, IIT Roorkee continues for a more equitable and prosperous future.
While addressing the audience, Kamal Kishore Pant emphasized the importance of inclusive leadership in driving economic growth. He said “At IIT Roorkee, we are committed to fostering research and discussions that address global challenges. This Winter School is a significant step toward understanding and bridging the gender gap in leadership and enterprise, contributing to sustainable and inclusive development.”
Mrutyunjay Behera also remarked and said: “Gender parity is not just a moral imperative but an economic necessity. The deliberations at this Winter School highlight actionable insights that can influence policy and empower women to take leadership roles, enhancing organizational and national performance. The government has been taking a host of proactive steps in the direction”
