JEE Main 2023: NTA to adopt different marking schemes for BTech, BArch, BPlanning papers

The testing agency will soon host the JEE Main admit card 2023 on the designated official website-- jeemain.nta.nic.in. Candidates can download their JEE session 1 admit card by logging in through their application number, date of birth and password.

The information brochure published by the NTA gives an explanation of the JEE Main 2023 marking scheme for Paper 1 (BE, BTech), Paper 2A (BArch) and Paper 2B (BPlanning). Candidates can also get the details of JEE Main 2023 marking scheme from here.

The JEE Main 2023 marking scheme for MCQs will be the following:

• For the correct answer or the most appropriate answer, candidates will be awarded four marks (+4).
• For an incorrect answer, there is a penalty of minus one mark (-1).
• In case a question is left unanswered or marked for review, no mark (0) will be given.
• In case, more than one option is found to be correct then four marks (+4) will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options.
• Also, Four marks (+4) will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question in which all options are found to be correct.
• If none of the options is found correct or a question is found to be wrong or a question is dropped then full marks will be awarded to all candidates who have appeared irrespective of the fact whether the question has been attempted or not attempted by the candidate.

JEE Main 2023 marking scheme for questions for which the answer is a Numerical value will be the following:

• Candidates will be awarded four marks (+4) for each correct answer.
• One mark (-1) will be deducted for each wrong answer.
• No mark (0) will be awarded in case a question is left unanswered or marked for review.
• Four (+4) marks will be awarded to those who answer a question that is incorrect or dropped. The reason could be due to human error or technical error.
• The candidates are advised to use the constants provided (if any) in the questions to do the calculations. The answer should be rounded off to the nearest integer.

However, in JEE Main Paper 1- BE, BTech , each subject (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) will have two sections comprise of 90 questions of 300 marks. Section A will comprise of 60 MCQs and Section B will comprise of 30 questions whose answers are to be filled in as a numerical value. Engineering aspirants have to attempt 5 questions out of 10 and there will be negative markings for both section A and section B.

In JEE Main Paper 2A- BArch, part 1 (Mathematics) and part 2 (Aptitude Test) of the question paper will be in computer based test (CBT) mode only while part 3 (Drawing test) will be conducted offline in pen and paper based mode. About 82 questions for a total of 400 marks will be asked in this section. As per the JEE Main 2023 information brochure, 20 questions will be MCQs and 5 (five) questions will have answers to be filled as a numerical value. There will be negative markings for both Section A and Section B.

In JEE Main Paper 2B- BPlanning, part 1 (Mathematics), part 2 (Aptitude Test) and part 3 (planning based) papers will be organised in computer based test (CBT) mode only. About 105 questions of a total of 400 marks will be asked in this section. The marking scheme in Paper 2B is similar to that of Paper 2A.
