Earlier, a bench of HC had quashed KSLU’s order of conducting exams for 3-year LLB course saying “effective education” was not given during online classes.
NEW DELHI: The Karnataka High Court has dismissed a petition challenging Karnataka State Law University’s decision of conducting offline exams for second and fourth semesters for five-year LLB programme, the Live Law reported.
Justice Ashok S Kinagi announced the decision today which was held on December 20 after listening to all the parties, the report said.

The University counsel had told the high court that exams began on December 15 and have already been conducted for 70% of the students. He prayed that if exams are not held, the students will not receive recognised degrees from the Bar Council of India (BCI) as per rules. He submitted that students did attend the online classes.

The petitioners had submitted that previously a bench of the high court had revoked the university’s decision to conduct offline exams for 2nd and 4th semester students of 3 year LLB course. Majority of the students did not possess the laptop or desktop and also did not have access to internet facilities; it is implied that effective education was not imparted to the petitioners as well as the majority of the students,” the court had observed.
The petitioners said this decision was not any different for the 5 year LLB course.

The BCI counsel submitted that the petitioners have not sought directions to reject the circular of BCI that makes exams mandatory for students and the coordinate bench of the high court has not quashed the circular, rather asked to promote students. Therefore, exams will be conducted by the university.
