The Kerala SCERT and SSA scheme will be piloted at 101 primary schools.
NEW DELHI : The Kerala Government has officially launched Manjadi, a project by the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC), to ensure fundamental mathematical abilities among primary school students. The scheme which aims to bridge the gap in basic arithmetics will be launched in 101 select schools on an experimental basis.
Manjadi aims to introduce moderately-difficult mathematical concepts in an easily understandable way for students. The scheme will be based on new methods of introducing mathematical concepts as developed by K-DISC based on their four-year research on the topic.
The scheme will be introduced in the 30 model residential schools of Kerala and in selected schools in Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram districts.
Samagra Shiksha Kerala is the implementation body and State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) is the research leader of the project.
Kerala has already introduced a slew of schemes at the pre-primary level by involving play-based learning methods in the curriculum. This includes Kalithoni (Toy Boat), a play-based syllabus launched in 2018; creation of model-primary schools; and the Varna Koodaram (Colour Tent), launched in 2022, which provides modern infrastructure for play-based activities.
