Maharashtra TET Corruption: Legal action against the guilty, says Varsha Gaikwad

NEW DELHI: Following reports of alleged corruption in the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) exams, Varsha Eknath Gaikwad, the school education minister, promised legal action against anyone found guilty.

The Pune City Police has today arrested Tukaram Supe, Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) regarding the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) 2020 paper leak case, reported the Times of India.

“We will not tolerate those who tamper with the future of children and teachers. I have ordered an inquiry under the additional chief secretary of school education to inquire into the matter,” said Gaikwad.

Gaekwad tweeted a video after her meeting with the senior officials of the school education department. She had discussed the legal measures to be followed in connection with the alleged corruption in the TET examination. “Anyone who is found guilty in connection with the misconduct of the TET exam will face severe action.

“A committee has been formed under Vandana Krishnaji, Additional Chief Secretary of School Education Department. The committee will investigate, and a report regarding the same will be submitted soon. Any legal assistance required will be available from the side of the school education department,” said Gaekwad.

Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (MAHA TET) is an exam conducted annually by the Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) for appointing teachers to teach students of Class 1 to Class 8. MAHA TET has two levels: the first one for the primary level (paper 1) and the second for the upper primary level (paper 2). Candidates have to clear paper 1 to teach for classes 1 to 5, and paper 2 to teach for classes 6 to 8. Candidates who want to teach classes 1 to 8 will have to clear both papers.
