Medhavi Skills University, ISGJ to launch India’s first BBA, MBA in gems and jewellery

The BBA, MBA in jewellery design aim to provide students with industry knowledge, practical expertise, while bridging the gap between traditional craftsmanship and modern industry needs.
NEW DELHI: Medhavi Skills University (MSU) has entered into partnership with the International School of Gems and Jewellery (ISGJ) based in Surat. This collaboration aims to bridge the skill gap in the sector by introducing industry-aligned BBA and MBA programmess specializing in jewellery Design and Manufacturing (JD and M).
As per the official press release, these courses, integrated with the Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programme (AEDP), are structured to provide students with comprehensive industry insights and practical experience, ensuring they acquire both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills.
Bridging traditional craftsmanship with modern industry
This partnership seeks to bridge the divide between traditional craftsmanship and modern industry requirements. The courses in jewellery Design and Manufacturing (JD and M), with AEDP, will provide students with a balanced combination of academic rigor and hands-on industry experience. This approach aims to equip them with the skills necessary to thrive in the fast-evolving jewellery design and manufacturing sector.
Agreement signing and industry visit
The agreement was signed by Kuldip Sarma, co-founder and pro-chancellor of MSU, and Kalpesh Desai, founder and CEO of ISGJ, in the presence of Sajeev Kumar S, vice president of industry relations at MSU, and Riddhi Vachhani, academic director at ISGJ. The signing ceremony was followed by an insightful industry visit, where key stakeholders, industry leaders, and students from the gems and jewellery sector gathered.

Skill-based education
Kalpesh Desai, CEO and founder of ISGJ, expressed excitement about the partnership with MSU to launch BBA and MBA courses in jewellery design and manufacturing. He emphasized that the collaboration combines ISGJ’s expertise in gems and jewellery craftsmanship with MSU’s innovative approach to skill-based education, aiming to nurture a new generation of professionals who will uphold India's jewellery heritage while embracing modern industry advancements and global trends.
Upskilling
Kuldip Sarma expressed his excitement, stating, “As the gems and jewellery sector, with its 4.6 million-strong workforce, continues to be a key contributor to India's GDP, the need for upskilling and strengthening manpower is more critical than ever. Through the MSU-ISGJ alliance, we are creating innovative programs that integrate industry and academia to drive the sector's growth and success.”
Sajeev Kumar, vice president of MSU, highlighted the university's dedication to industry-academia collaboration through the new agreement. He said that the collaboration aims to offer students industry-relevant and future-focused learning opportunities. He further stated that the partnership reflects MSU’s commitment to fostering innovation and skill development, particularly in the gems and jewellery sector, which is integral to India's heritage.
