NEET MDS 2021: SC issues notice to Centre seeking counselling dates in 3 weeks

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court sought a response from the Centre on a plea seeking direction in releasing the counselling dates of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test MDS (NEET MDS) at the earliest. As per the report of Live Law, a bench of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice MR Shah issued notice to MCC seeking the release of NEET MDS counselling 2021 dates in three weeks.

Senior advocate Vikas Singh appeared for the petitioners in the matter and said there is no update on counselling.

Pleas against delay in NEET MDS 2021 counselling dates

The petition filed by dental graduates through advocate Tanvi Dubey and advocate Charu Mathur sought directions to conduct the NEET MDS counselling separately and not wait for PG admissions. The petition was filed by NEET MDS aspirants due to ‘unjust and infinite delay’ caused by the MCC in the announcement of NEET MDS counselling.

“Issue an appropriate writ, order or direction...to direct the Respondent No.1 (MCC) to release the counselling date at the earliest, but in any event, no later than three weeks,” the plea said.

According to the Live Law , the petitioners argued that any further delay in the NEET MDS counselling dates will lead to a wastage of the entire year for the test takers. They have also stated that the delay in the counselling schedule is against the MDS Course Regulations, 2007, which instructs the academic session to commence from May 1 and conclude by May 31.

NEET MDS 2021 exam

The National Board of Examinations (NBE) conducted the NEET MDS exam on December 16, 2020, while the result was announced on December 31. However, the counselling process for the postgraduate dental exam has been delayed ever since. Through NEET MDS, around 6,377 Masters of Dental Surgery (MDS) seats are offered in 259 colleges.
