Use NowNEW DELHI: The Indian Medical Association has demanded that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) PG examination (NEET PG 2021) be held as per schedule without any postponement.
The association of doctors and its youth wing, Medical Students Network (MSN), are demanding NEET PG 2021 to be held as per its earlier announced schedule. The association has claimed that the examination has been postponed without any notice. The examination was scheduled to be held on January 10, which has been postponed by the NBE (National Board of Examinations).
The association has argued that postponement of NEET PG 2021 will harm students as it has been announced suddenly and no new date has been set yet.
‘Khichdi medical system’
The association has again reiterated its criticism of the National Medical Commission and the provisions of the law that underpins it, the NMC Act 2019. The IMA had criticised the provisions of the NMC Act saying that they promote “quackery” in the form of “crosspathy” -- the practice of mixing different disciplines of medicine. It alleges that this “khichdi medical system” will produce “hybrid doctors” and nullify the patients’ choices.
The establishment of the commission was notified on September 25; it replaces the Medical Council of India, becoming the new regulatory body for both medical education and its practice.
The IMA has stated that its student network which spreads across 287 medical colleges of the country are all equally concerned about their careers and future and have joined the IMA in its campaign against “quackery, mixopathy and crosspathy”.
The IMA has also criticised the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and its endorsement of multiple entries and exits in undergraduate courses and of multidisciplinary universities, which according to IMA, will abolish dedicated health universities.
Correction: A previous version of the report had said 'NEET PG 2020' has been postponed in both the headline and the copy. That has now been corrected to NEET PG 2021.
