NEW DELHI: The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Andhra Pradesh, opened its new 174-acre campus, for the new batch of BTech students. The new campus, located adjacent to the Chennai-Kolkata Highway (NH-16) in Tadepalligudem, West Godavari district, has been built at a cost of Rs 438 crore. The campus facilities for the JEE rank-holders include canteens, a hostel and a student recreation centre. Every building has been named after historical personalities, reported the Telegraph India.

The new campus has been built with prefabrication construction technology. The green building techniques used for construction have fetched NIT AP a platinum rating from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). Faculty and staff quarters, international hostels and bachelor accommodation for PhD scholars will be part of the second phase of infrastructure development of NIT AP.

“Out of all the new NITs, we are the only one to have completed our own building blocks and hostels. It is a proud moment for us and I am waiting to see the academic blocks filled with students, buzzing with their chatter. I hope we can welcome our new batch here for physical classes,” CSP Rao, director, NIT AP reportedly said.

“We have the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Administrative Building and two classroom complexes, one named after Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, and the other after Madan Mohan Malaviya. The two labs are named after A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and C.V. Raman. The new library is called the B.R. Ambedkar Central Library,” Rao reportedly said.

The latest auditorium inside NIT AP that can house 1,100 people is named after Rabindranath Tagore. There is also a Mother Teresa hospital complex, Dhyanchand Sports Complex and Netaji Indoor Sports Complex

Presently, NIT Andhra Pradesh is offering BTech, MTech, PhD and MS programmes. NIT Andhra has recently invited applications for PhD (full-time and part-time) and MS (by research).


The NIT AP and a group of state-run universities in the neighbourhood have recently formed a “regional education cluster group” to promote research and development programmes together. They will be working on mentorship and cooperation, joint research, student and faculty exchange programmes, joint academic programmes. Joining NIT Andhra Pradesh in this collaboration are Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Kakinada; Dr. YSR Horticulture University, Tadepalligudem; and Adikavi Nannaya University, Rajahmundry.
