NEW DELHI: Philosophy teachers from Delhi University colleges have written to DU's dean, examinations, requesting a review of the Open Book Examination (OBE) decision.
The teachers are against open book exams.
The petition signed by the teachers, 38 in all, has requested the dean to adopt the method similar to that adopted for intermediate semester students.
It says: “University should consider the possibility of giving degrees based on their marks obtained in IA and/or on the average of CGPA of 5 semesters.”
The teachers further feel that the students need to be given the option to sit for a pen-paper exam to improve their grades if required.
Why no OBE
The petition highlights the disparity between students of the university where a large number is also from an economically deprived background or have gone back to homes in remote areas.
Even as online classes were in progress many of the students could not participate due to various factors like poor connectivity or there were no computer or laptop or smartphone for them to access the
It also states the problems faced by visually impaired students because of non-availability of books and materials in Braille.
