Presidency University, ICAR-IIHR Bangalore host 24-hour ‘Chip to Crop’ hackathon

30 teams were shortlisted for prototype development and the final round consisted of live demonstration by the participants. The IIHR scientists evaluated the innovative solutions addressing critical challenges in the AgriTech domain.
Presidency University in collaboration with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR) Bangalore has organised a 24-hour hackathon named ‘Chip to Crop.’
The registrations for the hackathon opened a month ago, with real-time problem statements provided by ICAR-IIHR, attracting over 100 teams from different institutions.
Notably, 30 teams were shortlisted for prototype development and the final round consisted of live demonstration by the participants. The scientists of IIHR evaluated the innovative solutions addressing critical challenges in the AgriTech domain.
Expressing his thoughts, Tusar Kanti Behera, director, ICAR-IIHR Bangalore, said that the hackathon event organised by the Presidency School of Engineering and Presidency School of Computer Science and Engineering, and ICAR-IIHR equipped student innovators to use the latest technological tools to develop precision agricultural techniques.

Tusar Kanti Behera, director, ICAR-IIHR, Bangalore, inaugurated the hackathon along with Nissar Ahmed, chancellor, Presidency University.
“The students were given problem statements related to polyhouse pollination for tomato and cucurbit crops,polyhouse spraying for capsicum cultivation,outdoor spraying for mango orchads and grading & sorting of agricultural yields,” according to the official press release.
Therefore, the top 3 teams will receive mentorship and support to transform their ideas into deployable products at IIHR. “Having such events in the University campus gives students the golden opportunity to get real exposure and learn from industry experts,” Ahmed said.
