Smart India Hackathon 2022: PM Narendra Modi congratulates students for their innovative projects

NEW DELHI: Prime minister Narendra Modi addressed the grand finale of the Smart India Hackathon 2022 programme, a nationwide initiative providing students a platform to solve issues faced in daily lives. During the event, the Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan invited everyone to the event. The qualifiers of the Smart India Hackathon 2022 presented their new innovative projects at the event.

An all-girls team developed an app to translate inscription on ancient monuments by using machine learning solution for the process. Another student team from Pune developed braces for people with orthopedic disorders to help them make it easier to walk and carry out other daily activities. The device can help to remove 20 percent weight load from the knee, claimed the students. When the prime minister asked if it will be useful for sportspersons, the students said yes.

A team made of two school students developed a mobile gaming app for people suffering from dementia. Students from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra developed a cyclone tracking system using deep learning technology and satellite images. The team claims that the accuracy of the system is up to 89 percent. They also developed a web application that shows different aspects of cyclones.

Other innovative products by the students include multi-media data on radio waves for police radio, IPR registration process facilitation for grassroot innovators, and crime predictor based on past data for police to identify crime-affected areas. Modi congratulated these students for their innovations.

According to the prime minister, Smart India Hackathon is a good example of public participation and is significant in many ways. Modi said that all sectors in India is undergoing revolution and becoming advanced. He asked the youth to work to develop innovative solutions. "Few days back from now, we completed 75 years of independence. The country is working on big resolutions on how our country will be after 100 years of independence. You are the innovators who are the flag bearers of the slogan of 'Jai Anusandhan' for the fulfillment of these resolutions," he said.
