TET Certificate validity extended from 7 years to lifetime, says Pokhriyal

NEW DELHI: The Union Government has decided to extend the Teacher Eligibility Test qualifying certificate validity period from 7 years to lifetime with retrospective effect from 2011, as announced by the Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’.

The Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank', said, “The respective State Governments/ Union Territories will take necessary action to revalidate/ issue fresh TET certificates to those candidates whose period of 7 years has already elapsed. It will be a positive step in increasing the employment opportunities for candidates aspiring to make a career in the teaching field.”

“This will be a positive step in increasing the employment opportunities for candidates aspiring to make a career in the teaching field,” Pokhriyal added.

Last year, the NCTE had extended the validity of the CTET certificate to be lifetime. Now, the government has approved the same for the Teacher Eligibility Test.

All these changes have to be made to the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) Guidelines for TET validity dated February 11, 2011, which state that - TET is to be conducted by the respective State Governments and the validity of the TET Qualifying Certificate is 7 years from the date of passing TET exam.

About TET

Teachers Eligibility Test is one of the essential qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in government schools. All the state governments and Union Territories conduct their own TET exam for recruitment of teachers for Classes 1 to 8.

Interested and eligible candidates can appear for the TET exam as many times as they want even after qualifying the exam. The Teachers Eligibility Test is conducted in offline mode. The TET exam is conducted by state governments, whereas the Central Teachers Eligibility Test (CTET) is conducted by the CBSE at a national level.

This year various government recruitment exams like UPSC IAS 2021 , UPPSC PCS 2021 , SBI Clerk 2021 , UPTET 2021, MP TET 2020, CTET July 2021 have been delayed or postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
