Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) and Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced) are widely accepted entrance exams for admission to BTech programmes. However, several deemed-to-be universities such as Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani , Vellore Institute of Technology ( VIT ), Manipal Institute of Technology , and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham conduct their own engineering entrance exam for BTech admission.
The JEE Main 2025 session 2 exams will take place from April 1 to 8 in two shifts. For paper 1, the first shift is scheduled from 9 am to 12 pm, while the second shift will be held from 3 pm to 6 pm. The JEE Advanced 2025 exam is set to take place on May 18. Paper 1 will be held from 9 am to 12 pm, followed by Paper 2 from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
Some deemed-to-be universities also accept scores from state-level engineering entrance examinations such as the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) , West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination ( WBJEE ), Karnataka Common Entrance Test ( KCET ), Andhra Pradesh Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test ( AP EAMCET ), and Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test ( TS EAMCET ).
How are deemed universities different from other engineering colleges?
A deemed-to-be university is an institution that has been awarded autonomy by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in recognition of its quality in education, research, and infrastructure. Deemed universities operate independently and create their own curricula, admission processes, and exams. Deemed universities can be either government or private. Some deemed universities are funded and managed by the government, while others are privately owned and operated.
Deemed universities in India are known for their strong academic programmes, research opportunities, and industry collaborations. With the rise of emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, data science, renewable energy, and robotics, the demand for specialised engineering programmes has also increased. These deemed universities also offer a wide range of engineering courses with specialised disciplines.
