UGC asks higher education institutions to expedite recruitment of faculty

UGC has requested the HEIs to upload details of all the vacant teaching posts on the University Activity Monitoring Portal - ugc.ac.in/uamp/ on or before Dec 31.
NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked the colleges, universities and deemed to be universities to take necessary steps to fill up vacancies at the earliest while ensuring the implementation of guidelines for doing so.

“The shortage of faculty in Higher Education Institutions is a major concern and requires to be addressed on priority for improving the quality of Higher Education. you are, therefore, once again requested to take appropriate steps for faculty recruitment at the earliest in your university as well as in the affiliated colleges,” an official statement said.
UGC has also requested the higher education institutions to upload details of all the vacant teaching posts, along with the reservations and advertisement details on the University Activity Monitoring Portal - ugc.ac.in/uamp/ on or before December 31.

Selection procedure of faculty in the HEIs:
- HEls should follow the selection process as per their Acts, Statutes or constituent documents and in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and other Measures for the Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education) Regulations, 2018.
- HEls should, however, ensure that all the vacant posts, along with the reservations details, are uploaded on the online portal <https://ugc.ac.in/uamp/>. The monitoring of the filling up of the vacancies would be done by the MHRD and UGC through this portal.
- HEls should initiate and complete the selection process within a period of 6 months in terms of the schedule.

Meanwhile, recently, UGC extended the deadline for universities to submit information regarding the Apprenticeship or Internship Embedded Degree Programme (AEDP). The last date to submit the details is December 20, 2021. It had previously requested all the Vice-Chancellors of universities to furnish the details by October 10, 2021.
