UP, Assam Governors hold meeting on higher education reforms and ranking outcomes

NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel on Monday held a meeting with Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya and his education advisory team at the Raj Bhavan here to share reforms, innovations and academic achievements in the state’s universities. Chairing the meeting, Patel recalled that even during the COVID-19 pandemic she guided universities towards excellence by making them technologically capable, transparent, public-friendly and research-oriented, a Raj Bhavan statement said.

Reviewing national and international rankings, she said nine universities in Uttar Pradesh have secured “A+Plus” grades, three have earned “A+” grades, five received “A” grades and two “B+Plus” in the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) evaluation. Fourteen universities have also performed well in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings across 11 categories, while several have shown strong results in the QS South Asia and QS Asia rankings , the statement said.

Six universities get category 1 status

The University Grants Commission has granted Category 1 status to six state universities. Under PM Usha, six universities have received Rs 100 crore each and eight universities Rs 20 crore each for research and infrastructure development, she said.

The governor said continuous efforts have been made to strengthen quality, transparency, accountability and excellence through regular meetings, reviews and a comprehensive monitoring system. Officials from the Assam Governor’s Secretariat also made a detailed presentation on the initiatives and innovations being undertaken in higher education in Assam, the statement added.
