NCERT has removed the references to ‘regional resistance movement’ in Class 8 social science textbook, which will not be accessible in part 2 book launch in September-October 2025.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has clarified that Class 8 social science textbook volume 2 ‘Exploring Society: India and Beyond’, is expected to be released in September-October 2025. In the recently released Class 8 social science textbook volume 1, NCERT had removed references to the ‘regional resistance movement’, which will now be available in part 2 of the textbook.
As per the NCERT’s update, the second volume is in final stages of development and will be released in September and October 2025. The Class 8 social science textbook part 2 will include topics related to ‘regional resistance movements and armed uprisings’.
The ‘Exploring Society: India and Beyond,’ part 2 will include topics such as Paika rebellion, Khurda uprising of Odisha, the Kuka movement, rebellion of the Sikhs in Punjab, etc.

NCERT’s Class 8 social science textbook volume 1 describes Akbar's regime as a blend of ‘brutality and tolerance’, Babur as a ‘ruthless conqueror’, while Aurangzeb was a ‘military ruler’ who reimposed taxes on non-muslims. The new NCERT curriculum was introduced to students regarding the Delhi Sultanate, Mughals, Marathas, and the colonial era.
However, earlier, some versions of these topics were covered in Class 7, which has now been entirely shifted to Class 8 in line with the recommendations of the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) 2023 and National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
