“The NTA believes in the sanctity and fairness of conducting the examination, however, it also believes in the sensitivity involved in frisking (girl) candidates and will issue comprehensive instructions accordingly to the staff and other officials at the Examination Centres. The frisking of the female candidates will be done inside a closed enclosure by female staff only,” said NTA in NEET UG 2023 information bulletin.
Last year, a row erupted after a father of a NEET aspirant in Kerala alleged that his daughter and other girls were asked to remove undergarments to be allowed to write the exam in Kollam district. Initially, NTA had denied the claims and said that it has “not received any complaint in this regard”. Following a protest on the incident, NTA formed a fact-finding committee to ascertain the facts in the alleged incident and the Ministry of Education had asked the NTA to ascertain all the facts about the incident on the spot from stakeholders present at the Centre at that time. Police had registered a case and five women were arrested.
