Victoria University sets up its first India campus in Gurugram

Victoria University (VU), Australia, has set up the foundation for its first-ever India campus in Delhi NCR, located in Gurugram, Haryana. The new campus will open in mid-2026, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in business, information technology and research.

VU is first among Australian universities to be granted a license by the Indian government to establish a campus in India under the new National Education Policy (NEP 2020).

According to the official VU press release, the VU will adopt the "block model" to teach. It allows students to focus on a single subject at a time, taught in four-week blocks through small, workshop-style classes. VU was the first Australian university to adopt this approach and the statement says it has helped first-generation learners and disadvantaged students. The model is it is internationally-recognised as a "breakthrough in inclusive education" and been implemented in Malaysia and Sri Lanka, says the statement.

The initiative offers the university with opportunity to contribute to India’s human capital development. By offering globally relevant curricula, engagement with local industries, and nurturing skilled graduates, VU aims to play a transformative role in the country’s educational and economic progress.

The campus is expected to open by mid-2026, with the launch of undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programmes in business, information technology, and research.

The new campus in India is modelled on VU’s modern City Tower Campus in Melbourne. The campus aims to bring Australian education closer to Indian students at an affordable cost, reducing the need for expensive overseas travel and accommodation.

“With a strong equity focus, VU Block Model is already delivering outstanding results in Australia - undergraduate and postgraduate pass rates are high (94%) – excellent outcomes have also been achieved through student retention, progression and success,” the VU statement said.
