UGC invites universities for online lecture on ‘Academic Best Practices: Some Case Studies'

NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission is going to organize a year-long lecture series on the best practices in higher education. The Commission will organize one lecture every month starting from April. UGC has invited all central, state, private, deemed universities to participate in the first lecture. The first lecture in the lecture series will be delivered by Professor Govindan Rangarajan, Director of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore on the topic - “Academic Best Practices: Some Case Studies” at 10:30AM on April 27. The lecture will be live webcast on the Twitter handle of UGC as well as its Youtube Channel .

Inviting the universities, Professor Rajnish Jain, Secretary said in the official notification, “I invite you to join the online lecture on the date and time mentioned above and also request you to bring this to the notice of all faculty members and students of your institution and encourage them to join. I am confident that some of the best practices may help you to improve your quality of education that you have been striving to achieve.”

Through the lectures, UGC aims to recognize the importance of best practices in higher education and take such practices to all colleges and universities across the country. “A common factor among well performing higher education institutions is the unique practices they follow in instruction, research, and extension,” added the UGC notification.

Meanwhile, UGC and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) jointly advised students not to travel to Pakistan for pursuing higher education. “Any Indian national or overseas citizen who intends to take admission in any degree college or educational institution of Pakistan shall not be eligible for seeking employment or higher studies in India on the basis of such educational qualifications acquired in Pakistan,” said an official joint notice from UGC and AICTE.
