The government has asked schools to utilise the online learning platforms developed by the state and central governments.
NEW DELHI : The Government of Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday, decided to continue online teaching for Classes 9 to 12 from May 20. The state had earlier stopped all academic activities in schools till May 20 owing to the increase in COVID-19 cases.
The state said that the decision was taken owing to the “continuous decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases” and in the interest of “regularising academic sessions”. District school inspectors will be responsible for ensuring smooth conduct of the online classes.
The government also said that principals in charge should ensure that more academic work can be done from home.
It has asked schools to utilise the E-Gyan Ganga portal and YouTube channels operated by the Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad as well as the Swayamprabha portal of the central government.
The government also said that teachers should not be forced to teach online if they are infected with COVID-19. It has also said that students who have COVID-19 or have family members who have COVID-19 should not be forced to join the online classes.
Uttar Pradesh’s COVID-19 situation drew special focus when a primary school teachers association linked to the BJP that is now in government said that over 700 teachers had died of COVID-19 after being exposed to risk during the panchayat elections in April. Schools and universities in UP districts have lost dozens of teachers. Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) alone lost over two dozen current and former members of staff.
